There is a public open house in Saugeen Shores today hosted by the municipality and the County of Bruce.
The two are jointly preparing main street design guidelines on how to improve development along the commercial corridor in both Port Elgin and Southampton.
County Planner Jack Van Dorp says since June when a workshop was held, a design team has been putting all of the input it received into a working set of design guidelines.
Van Dorp says the goal is to use the guidelines and implement them as new development takes shape and changes are made within the two towns.
He says they’re holding an open house to release what has been pulled together so far and are hoping for more feedback.
Van Dorp says there are four main areas of concern by residents when it comes to guidelines; landmarks, the street, the site and the environment.
While some changes could be implemented through town policies, others could take decades.
Tonight’s meeting is at the Plex in Port Elgin from 6 PM to 8 PM however, input can be offered through the county’s website as well.

All information will then be passed along at the December 14th Council Meeting – in Saugeen Shores.
