Anyone who’s ever thought about adopting a child may be interested in a special seminar being held in Chesley.
The Children’s Aid Societies of Grey and Bruce Counties are holding tonight’s session dealing specifically with the prospects of adopting older children.
The guest speaker is Patrick O’Brien, the Executive Director of of an agency in Brooklyn New York.
CAS Director of Services Phyllis Lovell says he’ll be talking about the important role a permanent family can play in a child’s life — even as they become adults and require a sense of belonging.
She says while adopting older children does have its challenges — it can be very rewarding.
Lovell says they’ve seen it over and over — where adoptive older children thrive in a much more profound way than children who grow up without their own family.
She says O’Brien will also be talking about the link between poverty and homelessness and not having a permanent family structure.
Tonight’s free seminar is geared towards prospective adoptive and foster parents as well as those in the child welfare field.
It’s being held at the Chesley Community Centre from 6 PM to 9 PM.
Pre registration is not required.
