The Stokes Bay Lighthouse hasn’t taken flight yet.
As we first told you last month — Bruce County Tourism had hatched a plan to airlift the top of the lighthouse by helicopter.
It would then be preserved by the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
The lighthouse is located in a remote area with no road access and the federal government was planning to tear it down.
Museum Director Barbara Ribey says they’re still waiting for the flight to happen, and time is running out because of winter approaching.
She says the lighthouse is still standing, and the county is working out details.
But Ribey thinks it will have to be dismantled into two pieces after the airlift so it can be transported the rest of the way by road.
Ribey says it will be stored somewhere in order to avoid vandalism, then they’ll make plans to either have it inside the museum in Southampton or outside overlooking Fairy Lake.
