The Friends of Kincardine Hospital, Kincardine Council, and Huron-Kinloss Council are meeting on today to talk about how the local hospital is governed.
Friends Chair Gregg McClelland thinks Kincardine Council has come around to seeing there are problems with how the hospital runs, but knows opinion among councillors is still split.
He says some Councillors and Mayor Larry Kraemer don’t agree with the Friends’ original mandate to seek de-amalgamation from the South Bruce-Grey Health Centre, while other Councillors support that idea.
However, McClelland believes Council realizes there are problems with hospital governance and communication.
He says Kincardine never finds out anything about what is happening with the hospital, and calls South Bruce-Grey a “dictatorship.”
The provincial government has told the Friends that separating from South Bruce-Grey is not possible, but McClelland says that option still remains on their agenda.
However, he says they’re going to take what they have at the moment and meet with the two municipal councils to see what can be done in order to better serve the community.
One of the ideas Kincardine Council has discussed is allowing municipal councils to have representation on the South Bruce Grey Health Centre board.
The meeting will take place at 7 PM at the Kincardine Municipal office and according to Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer, the meeting is open to the public.
