The President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services says they’re not alone when it comes to difficulties in balancing their books.
Maureen Solecki says it’s something that many other community hospital agencies of similar size are struggling with — and it has to do with the level of care they’re providing.
She says Grey Bruce Health Services hospitals are doing a large number of procedures under the province’s wait times strategy.
Solecki says they’re very pleased to do those extra procedures but there are costs associated with them and many others that make it challenging to have a balanced budget.
Grey Bruce Health Service’s current deficit is estimated at 1.7 million dollars.
Solecki says the budget has faced extra pressures due to higher than expected surgical volumes and difficulty predicting future amounts of provincial funding.
Full details on how the agency plans to balance its budget will be made this month.
