The halls are alive with the sound of music at Holland Chatsworth Central School these days.
This after the school received a grand for five thousand dollars to purchase new musical instruments for the school band.
Music Teacher Gail Mulzaney-Courtois says she applied for the grant through the music counts program which is connected to the Juno awards and provides funding for school music programs.
She says she found out last month they were awarded the grant, and now they have managed to purchase a number of brand new instruments for the band which arrived at the school a few weeks ago.
Mulzaney-Courtois says the students are thrilled with the new instruments which will replace ones that are more than 20 years of age in some cases.
She says some of the instruments were so old that pieces were breaking off in the students hands as they were playing them.
Mulzaney-Courtios says this new band equipment will make a huge difference as far as the level of per ormance the band will be able to achieve.
She says they have been invited to the national Music Fest competition in Ottawa and if they get through the regional competition they will begin the process of fundraising to get to that competition in the spring.
