Residents in Hanover can get rid of their old TV or computer today.
The town is holding its first ever electronic waste day.
From 9 AM until 2 PM today — residents can take their e-waste to the Hanover Public Works Yard to discard of it for a nominal fee.
It’s 2 dollars an item and 5 dollars per TV.
Hanover Councillor Peter Hambly encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
He says e-waste is no longer accepted at the landfill site, so if residents miss out they will be forced to pay much higher prices at the regular e-waste depot where it can cost as much as 50 dollars to discard old items.
E-waste contains toxins that can leach into the ground, and that is why it has been banned at the landfill site.
Hambly hopes today’s e-waste day will become an annual event.
Last month Brockton residents took full advantage of their e-waste day — filling 4 trailers worth of electronic waste weighing in at 60 thousand pounds.
