Police detachments around the region are marking Crime Prevention Week which wraps up Saturday.
Owen Sound Police are encouraging residents to pick up a Home Security Audit Guide.
Community Services Officer Constable Chris Hartley says these days we’re all looking more closely at our homes in order to save energy and money but we should also be reviewing safety.
Residents can pick up the guides from the Owen Sound Police Services building, their office at the Heritage Place Shopping Centre and the DIA.
Meanwhile Bruce Peninsula OPP will be marking Crime Prevention Week with a workshop on Thursday dealing with domestic violence.
Constable Dave Meyer says the purpose of the workshops is to raise awareness for people to recognize the problem so that those being abused may be helped sooner rather than later.
Meyer says to date, Bruce Peninsula OPP have 58 domestic violence occurrences on the books.
He says the upcoming holiday season is one of the busiest for such occurrences and they could be on track to match or better last year’s tally of 86 domestic violence cases.
Colleen Purdon of the Grey Bruce Violence Prevention Co ordinating Committee will be speaking.
The workshops are free and run from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM and then again from 11 AM to Noon in the Community Room of the detachment in Wiarton.
