The principal of Kincardine District Secondary School won’t say exactly how many students missed school last week, or the exact reason why.
The school experienced high levels of absenteeism due to students experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Deb Kaufman says she won’t give exact amounts and reasons because not all students were off due to the flu.
She says a number were away for other reasons such as appointments and interviews.
Kaufman says they told students and parents that no new work would be assigned this past Friday.
She says that prevented students who were ill from getting behind in their work, and so healthy students could still come to school and get help from teachers and work on assignments.
Kaufman says the absence situation is looking much better this week.
She says a large number of students were out of the building last week, but the vast majority are back in class now.
Kaufman says some staff members have been ill but not to the level experienced by students.
She says however they nearly had a difficult time making sure there were enough teachers to cover classes.
Office staff at Saugeen District Secondary School in Saugeen Shores say the number of absences there recently have only been slightly higher than what they normally see during the fall season.
