Some treats this Halloween in some areas will be a non-perishable food item.
A number of students across Bruce and Grey Counties will be collecting non perishable food items for local food banks.
GC Huston school teacher Enid Johnson says the 140 students at the Southampton school are a part of the Halloween for Hunger campaign.
Johnson says their goal is to collect over 500 food items.
Many of the children will be taking along a wagon to help carry the food items they may collect.
Johnson says the students are well aware that over 850 thousand people in Canada use a food bank regularly and they just want to do their part to help.
Johnson hopes they achieve what they’ve set out to do because it motivates the children to do even more for their community.
Another group will be out doing their thing as well in another section of the town.
Jake Kowoniuk says about 30 people from the Port Elgin United Church youth group will be going door to door collecting canned goods for the Salvation Army food bank as well.
Last year the group collected 500 items of food and they hope to better that this year.
