The Grey Bruce Health Unit is adding more H1N1 flu clinics to meet the demand in the community.
The next H1N1 flu clinic for high priority residents will be held next Monday at the health unit office in Owen Sound from 10 AM to 7 PM.
Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the first clinic went very well.
She credits her staff who worked hard to get about two thousand people their H1N1 vaccine.
Doctor Lynn says they did turn a few people away — for example, people who didn’t meet the highest priority or seniors over 65 who wanted the H1N1 shot.
Doctor Lynn says they just wanted to ensure everyone on their high risk list received the vaccine since they have limited doses.
A second shipment of nine thousand doses arrived yesterday and Doctor Lynn says many of them will go to hospitals and doctors offices.
But she hopes a third shipment arrives as early as today.
Doctor Lynn admits she is frustrated — as are local doctors — over the lack of vaccine available to Grey Bruce.
Doctor Lynn says they see a huge spike in the number of flu like cases and they want to be able to give people an H1N1 shot before they get sick.
The health unit has asked for another 40 thousand H1N1 doses.
Doctor Lynn hopes to make a decision early next week about when the general population will be able to get their H1N1 shots.
But she says that will all depend on how many vaccines they receive.
The health unit has also added two more clinics on Saturday November 7th and November 14th in addition to the clinics already scheduled across Grey Bruce.
