If you have used tires and you live in West Grey – you can get rid of them for free.
A program is now up in running to dump your old tires at the Bentinck, Durham and Normanby landfill sites without paying any fees.
The initiative is partnership with our province and the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program.
The free collection has been in place since September.
Public Works Manager Ken Gould says all you really need when you show up at one of the sites is three things.
Gould says you need a piece of photo id, the number of tire you are dumping and whether they are a car – truck or tractor tire.
There is no limit to the amount of tires you can dump – but Gould says if you are a commercial establishment – like a garage – you should look into the provincial program for your own business.
Once a fair amount of tires have been collected – Gould says an authorized hauler will remove them for recycling.
The Durham landfill is open Tuesday – Thursday – Friday and Saturday.
The Bentinck and Normanby sites are open Saturdays only.
