Any decision on a wind farm moratorium in Arran Elderslie is on hold for two weeks.
Mayor Ron Oswald says council dealt with this subject for an hour Monday during their regular council session.
Oswald says they’re looking at a heritage conservation study that the municipality could do that would be better than a moratorium and give the community better coverage of the land affected.
The recent Green Energy Act takes municipalities out of the decision making for location of wind farms and Oswald believes this may be around that issue.
He says many councillors are against the turbines and he feels that if the turbines are creating health problems, then that should concern everybody.
In the meantime NextEra resources of Burlington continue to talk to farmers northeast of Paisley and southeast of Tara where wind farms are being planned.
Oswald says he’s heard that farmers have been contacted but the company has not been back to the municipality to talk about the two developments.
A public meeting on the wind turbine issue is being held tonight at the Keady Community Centre at 7 PM.
The meeting is being held by a group of concerned ratepayers and several Arran Elderslie councillors are planning to attend.
While this is going on, Bruce Grey Owen Sound Progressive Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch plans to present a private member’s bill at Queen’s Park on Thursday, calling for a province-wide moratorium on wind farms.
The idea of the bill is have a definitive study on the health effects of wind turbines.
