A group of residents have petitioned the town to create an off leash dog park.
The towns Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is looking into the possibility.
Councillor Rick Hopkins says available land is the first hurdle that must be addressed.
Staff have also been instructed to research how other municipalities have handled off leash dog parks in terms of rules and regulations.
As for Hanover residents the opinion on the street varies.
While some call it a waste of taxpayer money, others enthusiastically embraced the idea.
Many dog owners say it will provide their pooches with a great opportunity to exercise and socialize with other dogs.
One common concern amongst those polled was safety.
Many say an off leash dog park would require strict rules to ensure no one gets hurt.
