New equipment is coming to the Tara Curling Club, thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch says the $38,500 grant is being used to replace aging condenser equipment and to install upgrades that will make the facility more energy-efficient.
Liz Chambers, a volunteer with the Foundation’s local Grant Review Team, was on hand for the announcement this week and was also there to offer her congratulations to the club.
Murdoch says Money from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant was used by the club to replace a chiller, which was nearly 35 years old, and to buy a new batter-powered electric scraper.
Part of the grant has also helped the organization to install a new water treatment system that will reduce the amount of water and electricity used at the facility and ultimately help with operating costs.
For over 60 years the Tara Curling Club has operated and this year’s curling season will start in early November.
