Kincardine Council is in favour of a zoning change that will allow a small used car lot to set up on King Street in Tiverton.
The zoning change will allow Randy LeBlanc to operate the car lot on a commercial portion of the property, while the rear part will be zoned residential and he plans to build a home there.
LeBlanc currently operates his business in the town of Kincardine.
The Tiverton District Ratepayer’s Association doesn’t support of the plan — spokesperson Ed Roberts says it doesn’t fit into the character of the village.
Resident Lorraine McIntosh lives in the neighbourhood and is upset she wasn’t notified when the official plan was changed three years ago to allow commercial use in the area.
Councillors Randy Roppel and Gordon Campbell both oppose the plan.
Councillor Mike Leggett says LeBlanc’s existing business in Kincardine is tidy and supports his move to Tiverton.
LeBlanc says he can understand why some residents are opposed to his plan, but says the zoning in the area allows for commercial development.
He says if a house in the area gets taken down, commercial development can replace it on the same property.
Residents are concerned about the appearance of the site, and don’t want things like flags and streamers that often decorate car lots.
LeBlanc says not to worry, he plans to plant flowers and have fencing on the property.
