If you are walking through Owen Sound today and happen to see a scene from Night of the Living Dead — it’s all for a good cause.
The first annual Zombie Walk happens Saturday and is organized by a true lover of all things horror, strange and halloween – like
Steve Santini is better known as a an Owen Sound escape artist – but is now the organizer of the zombie walk.
Santini says he cannot take credit for the idea.
He actually got the idea from places like Hamilton and Toronto that have held similar events for several years.
Santini says to steer it more locally he wanted to turn the event into something the community could rally around.
So – Santini realized there is a need for donations at the foodbank – so he decided to turn it into an event to help the organization.
Santini will ask participants to bring non perishable food or cash donations with them and he will collect them for the foodbank.
The escape artist would like to see this turn into an annual event – and has already talked about organizing an Owen Sound Fright fest – a Halloween festival that would incorporate the zombie walk.
To participate in the walk – Santini says to wear your best zombie costume and makeup – show up at the Bayshore Community Centre at 3 PM.
The creepy march will then head to the steps of city hall.
Santini says the afternoon was chosen instead of the tried and true night zombie walk – so children and families could participate.
