The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton has won an award from the Ontario Museum Association.
The facility received the honour Thursday in Hamilton.
Director Barbara Ribey says it’s the Museum of Excellence Award for programming — particularly for the museum’s Wizardry and Wonders program.
She says they’ve tied nature and history into a guided walk around Fairy Lake, directly behind the museum.
Ribey says the community loves it, especially small children.
Along the way, the children encounter the Queen of Fairy Lake, someone special who only appears at that place.
She says the Queen has become so popular that many little girls show up for the walk dressed as princesses.
Ribey says they’re fortunate to have the lake at the museum for educational purposes and acknowledges the program is rather unusual for a museum.
