The H1N1 flu vaccine will be in Grey and Bruce Counties by tomorrow.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says it will receive seven thousand doses of the vaccine in their first batch.
Manager of Vaccine Preventable Disease Karen Sweiger tells us they will start distributing the vaccine to doctors offices, hospitals and long term care facilities.
Sweiger says the H1N1 vaccine will be administered to high risk residents — which includes health care workers, pregnant women as well as young kids and adults under 65 with chronic conditions.
But she tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the first batch won’t be enough to cover that high risk group.
Sweiger says as more doses arrive weekly, they will be made available to more people.
But she estimates it won’t be until mid November before healthy adults will be able to get the H1N1 flu vaccine.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit has already set a date for its first H1N1 flu clinic.
It will be held next Thursday from 10 AM to 7 PM at the Health Unit office in Owen Sound for high risk residents without a family physician.
It will be held at the same time as the seasonal flu vaccine for seniors.
Sweiger says they will hold more H1N1 flu clinics once more doses arrive.
She also says people should not be worried about the safety of the vaccine because it has gone through vigorous testing.
Sweiger adds they are noticing more and more flu like cases in Grey Bruce — but she says it has not reached an alarming rate.
