The public will finally have a chance tonight to see the preliminary plans for the new regional recreation complex which will be built at Victoria Park in Owen Sound.
Input is being sought into the 37-million dollar project, particularly from seniors who would use a centre that is being considered for inclusion in the facility.
Owen Sound council decided last night to create an ad hoc committee designed to determine who would use a seniors centre, what programs it might offer and who would pay for them.
Councillor David Adair points out that so little is known right now about the need for seniors programming in the community, especially compared to that of people who will use the complexs ice, aquatic and fitness facilities.
Councillors John Christie, Peter Lemon and Arlene Wright will represent council on the new committee, which will also seek representation from the community.
In other rec centre news, Councillor Jim McManaman, Chair of the centres steering committee, announced that Georgian Bluffs Councillor Ryan Thompson will join the steering committee.
Thompson is the chair of the recreation and property committee in Georgian Bluffs, which has agreed to be involved in the construction of the complex but which has yet to make a financial commitment.
Tonights meeting starts at 7 PM at the Bayshore Community Centre.
