Employers across Grey Bruce are being encouraged to celebrate their employees all this month.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit has sent flyers to about 300 local employers announcing that Healthy Workplace Month is underway.
Public Health Nurse Marilyn Lemon says the event used to be only one week long, but has been expanded this year to last all of October.
She says the theme this year is ‘Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Work’.
Lemon says the goal is to recognize employees’ successes and accomplishments, and show them how vital they are to their organization.
She says employers are encouraged to get everyone participating in the different activities and challenges found online at www.healthyworkplacemonth.ca
Lemon says the ideas range from decorating your workspace, to starting a walking club, to hosting a blood donor clinic.
She adds employers are also invited to call the Health Unit and arrange for different seminars to come to their offices.
Lemon says in the end, it’s all about incorporating healthy activities in the place where we spend a lot of our time – the workplace.
She says employers will also benefit when a positive and healthy environment is created and maintained at the office.
Lemon says people become more productive and happy to be at work, while their chance of illness is also reduced.
