Wear a purple ribbon during the month of October – support the safety of children.
October is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Children’s Aid Societies across our province dedicate the month to focus on the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
The theme of this years campaign is “Kid’s don’t have to live with abuse”.
On going Services Worker for the County of Bruce CAS – Krista Rogers- says it is our duty as citizens to protect children from all forms of abuse and neglect.
Rogers says to report any signs of abuse or neglect in children you may know – and not to be embarrassed about doing it.
She adds many children have a difficult time talking about abuse and neglect – and it is our duty as adults to speak on their behalf.
Rogers says its not just the right thing to do – but the law – under the Ontario Child and Family Services Act.
Rogers says if you think there may be a case that the CAS should look into feel free to call them, toll free, at 1-800-461-1993.
If you would like to remain anonymous – you have that option as well.
Once the issue has been raised – the case is passed on to a worker who investigates the issue – many times meeting with he family.
Right now the County of Bruce CAS has 240 families they are currently working with in regards to abuse and neglect.
Rogers says you can wear a purple ribbon at any time to support the cause.
To get a ribbon contact the children’s aid society of the county of Bruce.
