The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton will introduce a new membership system designed to attract more younger visitors.
And, as Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter James Morgan tells us, they’re also continuing a connection with another local museum.
The Museum Committee has agreed to let the facility start a school membership category.
Schools will be able to purchase yearly memberships at the museum in the same way individuals and families do.
It will allow them to save money since most schools make use of the museums half-day programs more than once a year.
As an example, a school could save 20 percent on five-half day programs per year for 25 students.
For 30 students, the savings could go as high as 250 dollars.
County Councillor Mitch Twolan Chairs the Museum Committee and says it’s a way of getting more students to visit the museum.
He hopes once students are introduced to what it offers, they’ll get their parents to visit next.
The school memberships are being targeted to public and Catholic schools in Grey and Bruce Counties and will cost 500 dollars each.
Also, the Committee has approved continuing the reciprocal membership agreement with Grey Roots near Owen Sound that allows members of both it and the Bruce museum to visit each facility free of charge.
