15 thousand dollars from the Ontario Trillium Foundation is going to the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Kincardine.
Branch Second Vice President and Renovations Chair Donna Wilson says it’s for the fourth phase of their ongoing renovation program.
They plan to put a new floor and cupboards in the kitchen, something he says wouldn’t have been possible without the support from Trillium.
Wilson says the grant will barely cover the cupboards themselves, and there are other minor electrical improvements needed too.
She says the fire suppression system also has to be upgraded.
Ted Onerheim is a veteran who spent 21 years in the air force and appreciates that work is being done to keep the legion in good shape.
He says the Trillium funding is a great help, but they also do corporate fundraising through requests to local companies.
Other recent renovations to the Kincardine Legion include a new handicapped elevator, and upgrades to the hall and washrooms.
Once the kitchen improvements are made, renovations are being considered for the bar area of the historic building.
