A million dollar expansion and renovation of the Shallow Lake Community Centre is now officially underway.
MP Larry Miller, MPP Bill Murdoch, and Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning in the village.
The Township of Georgian Bluffs has received a grant from Superbuild Canada for the changes to the Shallow Lake Arena.
Barfoot says two-thirds of the cost of the project wll be paid for by the grant.
The work includes site improvements, building additions/renovations, exterior renovations, and improved energy efficiency.
CAO Bill White says the two storey addition will include 3 new dressing rooms, storage and roof work.
Tenders close today on the project, and the contracts will be awarded in a few weeks.
Actual work will begin later this fall and White says it will continue into next summer.
