The Hanover Fire Department now has its own Automated External Defibrillator Unit.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Robyn Garvey tells us — the unit was a gift.
Hanover Fire Chief Ken Roseborough welcomes the defibrillator unit as they are one of the last departments in Grey County to get one.
The unit was donated by the Grey County Emergency Medical Services and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
As first responder, Roseborough says it makes good medical sense for fire departments to be equipped with this life saving technology.
He says the defibrillator will not only provide added protection for those the fire department is rescuing but the firefighters themselves.
Roseborough says you never know if a fire fighter is going to have a heart attack during a rescue operation or training exercise.
He says the defibrillator unit is very easy to use and is similar to the ones located at local arenas and hospitals.
Six fire fighters have already received training on the unit with additional training set to take place for more firefighters in the near future.
