A Hanover business man has received the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award.
Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Robyn Garvey tells us Bruce McDonald is one of 75 recipients across the country to receive the honour.
Bruce McDonald — a broker at Craig McDonald Reddon Insurance — says the award caught him by surprise.
He says he was shocked to receive a letter from Governor General informing of him of the prestigious award.
McDonald has a long list of volunteer work.
Over the last 35 years McDonald has been involved in numerous service clubs including — the Mildmay Chamber of Commerce, the Formosa Lions Club, the Howick Optimist Club, the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Grey Bruce Singers.
In recognition of his achievement the town of Hanover has bestowed another honour on McDonald with a certificate for all of his volunteer work.
McDonald encourages more young people to get involved with their communities.
He says while it does take time and commitment, he says volunteer work really is its own reward.
McDonald adds it’s always nice to get a thank you.
He calls the Caring Canadian Award a great acknowledgement to the fact that his work has been gratefully received.
McDonald is a former Hanover resident who currently resides in Brockton.
