For your safety, police will be out in full force this long holiday weekend for Operation Impact.
The goal is to increase public awareness and compliance with safe driving measures across Ontario.
Saugeen Shores Police Sergeant Dave Butcher says they’ll be focusing on impaired and aggressive driving.
Sergeant Butcher says ride Programs will be in effect throughout the weekend.
The other part of the initiative is an education campaign in raising awareness and addressing the importance of safe driver behaviour.
Butcher says they will also be patrolling trails and waterways.
Last Thanksgiving weekend — nine people died in motor vehicle collisions on OPP patrolled highways.
Butcher says once again, their goal is make sure everyone gets to and from their destinations safe, and more importantly alive.
He says this long weekend is traditionally one of the busiest on Ontario highways.
That’s because people head to their cottages and visit family for the final long weekend of what is referred to as the summer driving season.
