Grey Bruce Health Services is encouraging all of its staff to get the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available.
President and CEO Maureen Solecki says every year they launch a significant program to encourage staff to get the seasonal flu shot, and they’ll be doing the same this year with H1N1.
She says the vaccine is to be available in November and health care workers will be among the first in line for a shot.
She says in many cases, the virus had mild symptoms, but for others, they are extremely serious.
Solecki wants staff to be available to treat patients with H1N1, and that’s why they should get the shot.
She says they do their best to make it easy as possible for staff at all Grey-Bruce Health Services hospitals to get their flu shot, even to the point of having mobile clinics go to each unit so staff don’t have to leave what they’re doing.
Last year, one staff member in Owen Sound even got a seasonal flu shot in the elevator.
