Another food drive underway in the region, this one sponsored by Farm Credit Canada.
This is the 6th year the Drive Away Hunger campaign has taken place.
FCC spokesperson Barb Richardson says it all started when the Regional Manager in Listowell drove a tractor and wagon to the IPM in Meaford collecting food for local food banks.
She says the program has now expanded to include just about every FCC office across Canada and continues until October 16th which is world food day.
Richardson says there is one tractor drive this year in Ontario which will travel from the Chatham area to London.
She says all the FCC offices will act as collection depots for people to drop off their donations for local food banks.
Richardson says in rural areas, hunger and poverty are often more difficult to see but it does exist and this one way they can help smaller food banks look after the needy.
She says since 2004, the Drive Away Hunger program has collected more than two million pounds of food for hungry families.
Richardson says they year they are looking for such non perishable food items like rice, pasta, baby food, cereal and other things that a family would need.
There will also be a truck outside our radio stations in Owen Sound and Port Elgin today, tomorrow and Saturday to collect food for local food banks.
