It’s the leading cause of injury among seniors.
Just under 60 per cent of injury related emergency room visits in Ontario are seniors taking a spill.
A free seminar to help seniors maintain their independence is being held in Meaford today sponsored by the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Participants will be asked to help with a focus group dealing with the prevention of falls in public places.
They’ll be asked to comment on the potential dangers within the public transportation system, public buildings, on sidewalks and stairs among others things.
Medical experts say the chances of a senior dying from a hip fracture after a fall is actually higher than the chances of dying from a heart attack.
The event — being held at Meaford Hall from 11 AM to 2 PM — will also include a free luncheon, a personal fall risk assessment and door prizes.
