A Brockton Councillor is disappointed it’s taking so long to deal with nitrate levels in the water around municipal wells 7 and 9.
Chris Peabody says they’d like the Source Water Protection Committee to come up with a plan and spend some money to address the problem.
He’s disappointed that it could take until 2012 though before that happens.
He says the Source Water Protection Committee has been working on it’s terms of reference for a long time, and now that they’re approved, it’s waiting for a regulation to be granted from the province.
Council first addressed the nitrate levels around the wells in 2007.
Peabody says monitoring wells have shown high nitrate levels for a number of years and they want to take steps to reduce the amount.
The municipality and the Source Water Protection Committee are working on a provincial funding application for work to deal with the nitrate levels.
The application will be submitted by the end of October.
