Grey County is on the hook for part of the cost to repair a contractor’s mistake.
Transportation and Public Safety Committee Chair Howard Greig says inferior asphalt was used to pave Grey Road 30 last year.
He says that means a 5.5 kilometre stretch of the road east of Markdale needs to be pulverized and repaved.
Greig says the county has negotiated with the contractor to split the cost of the fix-up job about 65 / 35.
The total cost will be 300-thousand dollars, with the county contributing 115 thousand dollars, and the contractor covering the remaining 185 thousand.
Greig says it was decided to go this route because taking the issue to court would have been far more costly in the end.
He says the money to cover the county’s share has been found in the existing budget.
The repair job on Grey Road 30 is currently underway.
