A Brockton landowner in the path of a proposed power line with isn’t happy about the amount of compensation Hydro One is offering him for his land.
Douglas Hackett’s farm in the former Greenock Township is in the path of the proposed new Bruce to Milton power line.
The land has an Environmental Protection designation on it.
Hackett says the three percent injurious affection compensation Hydro One is offering him doesn’t compliment the land value that comes with that designation.
He says if Hydro is going to ruin the potential of the land, they should be paying more than three percent.
Councillor Chris Peabody says Hackett is frustrated and not getting fair treatment from Hydro One.
He says it’s an unfortunate situation that council has taken a stand on through a resolution back in June asking Hydro to offer better compensation.
Peabody says Hydro One is using the line to subsidize the profits of large power generation companies.
Council has urged Hackett to work with other concerned landowners and possibly force an Ontario Municipal Board hearing on the matter.
He’s taking a wait and see approach on how successful that could be.
