It’s that time of the year, turkeys are nervous and fund-raising is getting underway for local food banks.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive by the Salvation Army runs from now until the 10th and Captain Colin Bain is hopeful they can reach the target this year.
Bain says last year the goal was 26 thousand pounds of food and they failed to reach it.
Captain Bain says demand for help at the local Food bank is up 68 per cent this August compared with last year, so it is critical they reach or exceed the same target this year.
There are several ways to donate:
You can drop off cash at the Salvation Army office, or you can call 1-800-Sal-Army and give cash to the Owen Sound office.
There will also be a truck outside our radio stations in Owen Sound and Port Elgin on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to collect food for local food banks.
Captain Bain says food donations are welcome, but cash is even better since they have agreements with companies which help turn a one dollar donation into seven dollars worth of food.
