Many merchants in the region already know it.
Now the manager of VISA security, TD/Canada Trust, Tom Sheluk is telling everyone else.
The fraud game is expanding, moving into the smaller rural communities.
Sheluk tells Bayshore Broadcasting News private citizens have to be on alert as well.
Sheluk says once you’ve discovered you’ve lost your credit or debit card, contact your bank immediately to have a block put on the account.
He says many banks track the purchases of a card, and if they become unusual they will enforce their own block, even before the cardholder knows it’s missing.
Sheluk says many cardholders are getting new cards that use a CHIP processor rather than a magnetic strip to hold your information.
He says the chip is almost impossible to get into so the security is very high.
However, Sheluk says it will be a while yet before everyone is on the chip program.
