They can make a pumpkin into a work of art.
Kevin Bender of Dundas and Lucas Bruxer of Waterloo have been coming to Pumpkinfest in Port Elgin now for 10 years — taking giant pumpkins, and carving them into amazing sculptures.
Bender says he and Bruxer used to be professional ice sculptors and then decided to turn their attention to giant pumpkins instead.
He says Bruxer’s grandfather is a grower at Pumpkinfest and that’s how it all got started for them.
Bender says they used to visit a few different carnivals and community events around Ontario, but they aren’t in it for the competition, they just enjoy doing their work at Pumpkinfest once a year now.
Bender and Bruxer were impressing the crowd on Saturday at Pumpkinfest while they turned a giant pumpkin into an impressive spider.
Bender admits that he does enjoy dressing his house up once Hallow’een rolls around.
