This is an exciting day at St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton, Gerard Bergie, will be on hand to officially open the school’s new 15 thousand square foot addition.
The celebration will include two school masses, followed by a special ribbon cutting and blessing ceremony with a school wide party to follow.
Bruce Grey Catholic Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says students and staff have a lot to celebrate.
She says the 3.9 million dollar addition includes six new classrooms, two science labs, a food and nutrition room, and an art room.
Each new classroom is also equipped with smart board technology.
Colton adds the new addition has been well received by both staff and students.
The City of Owen Sound meanwhile has deferred a decision to designate the school’s 118 year old wing as a heritage site.
If not, the Catholic School Board will tear it down and erect a replica entranceway and interpretive plaque.
