The leaves turn and the scarecrows emerge in Meaford.
Tonight the 13th annual Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival kicks off.
“Head Scarecrow” Marilyn Morris – says the event starts with the unveiling of “Schubird” the scarecrow.
Morris says it is a beautiful bronze statuette – modelled by local artist Gunter Neumann.
The unveiling will happen at 5:15 PM at the North side of Meaford Hall.
From the unveiling, Morris says a parade will proceed involving down Sykes street and will feature the scarecrow marching kazoo band
On Friday night there will also be the apple pie judging contest as well as live entertainment featuring the GBSS idol – Jordyn Smith and music by the Tin man and the Flying Monkeys.
There is also the family festival happening Friday night with puppet shows and clowns.
Morris says the invasion is the work of 160 volunteers and continues into Saturday with many events throughout the town.
