More frustration from those worried about the health effects of wind turbines — this time at a public meeting hosted by the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Frustrated residents who claim theyre victims of electrical pollution say they didnt hear anything new from the panel, and theyre angry that their concerns are still not being addressed.
More than 100 people showed up for the meeting, many of them sporting stickers that said health over wind.
At times they heckled keynote speaker Doctor Ray Copes of the new Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion.
They scoffed at his claim that no data has ever been published that confirms that adverse health effects can be caused by noise from wind turbines.
Ripley resident Kent Wylds told the crowd that he, his pregnant wife and their two-year-old daughter have been forced out of their home by noise from nearby turbines.
They’re currently living in a Kincardine motel at the expense of the wind developer and don’t know when they’ll be able to return home.
Carmen Krogh is an advocate for those living near wind turbines.
She’s attended about 40 public presentations and says its frustrating to be told by health officials that they can do nothing to help people who are suffering.
Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn says the health units scope is also limited.
The money, resources and facilities simply aren’t available to do the kind of study residents are demanding.
Chris Munn, the health units director of health protection, says the Ministry of Health has been contacted previously in regard to the establishment of a comprehensive study on wind farms.
He assured the crowd that the board of health would continue to push for it.
A similar meeting will take place on October 6 in Walkerton.
Copes will again be the keynote speaker.
