Some big news for anyone needing a doctor in the Wiarton area.
A new doctor is coming to the Bruce Peninsula in Mid-November.
The physician recruitment committee announced last night at a health care meeting in Wiarton, that Doctor Nelvia Van Dorp and her fiance Chris Hodgkinson will move from Northern Ontario to Wiarton next month.
Since she finished West Hill Secondary School, Nelvia completed her undergraduate degree at Trinity Western University in B-C, and then studied medicine at the University of Western Ontario in London.
Doctor Van Dorp has been working in Northern Ontario, with stops in Thunder Bay, and Marathon.
Her fiance is an electrical engineear who works in Marathon and Thunder Bay working for Cook Engineering.
After their move, Nelvia will begin working in the Emergency department in late November.
She will also proceed with office set-up and staffing arrangements, and plans to begin seeing new patients in an office in the professional building beside the Wiarton hospital in January.
But Doctor Van Dorp will not start accepting new patients until after she begins working in November.
She also intends to be involved with the recruitment committee, with the goal of helping to recruit other health professionals to the area to help meet the healthcare needs of our community.
Doctor Nelvia Van Dorp is the daughter of Doctor John Van Dorp of Wiarton.
