Saugeen Shores Councillor Fred Schildroth is impressed that so many businesses along Goderich Street in downtown Port Elgin have pulled out all the stops when it comes to decorating for this weekend’s Pumpkinfest.
However, he isn’t impressed with graffiti that has shown up on some of the outdoor decorations.
He says it’s sad when people spend so much time decorating the downtown area and then someone commits a careless act.
Schildroth says if people see graffiti artists at work, they shouldn’t be afraid to speak up and report them because their work isn’t welcome in town.
He says Pumpkinfest is an important event for the community because of the business and tourism it brings to town, and how many visitors come back again because they’re impressed by the local hospitality.
This is not the only case of graffitti in Saugeen Shores.
Police report on Thursday of last week they responded to three incidents of graffiti from the overnight hours.
The buildings occupied by Beachin, Hairport and a trailer behind Furniture Boys were sprayed with brown and or black spray paint.
Any one with information is asked to call police.
