A private members bill is being presented this week in the House of Commons that could save rural homeowners a bit of money.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller has been getting an earful from his constituents who are upset that Canada Post is forcing many of them to move their roadside mailboxes.
The Crown Corporation is analyzing the safety of where the mailboxes are placed, and in some cases is telling homeowners to move them, or give up home delivery.
Miller says his bill basically supports rural mail delivery and would force Canada Post to pay for the mailboxes to be moved.
Despite the fact it is a private members bill, the Conservative MP thinks there will be widespread support in the House from all party members, and it has a good chance of getting passed.
The local MP expects some amendments as the bill winds its’ way thru the legal process, but feels it will get approval.
Miller says it is important issue in his riding and despite the uncertainty of a minority parliament — he’ll push ahead with the bill.
