Construction crews were busy this August in Saugeen Shores.
Chief Building Official Jim Bell says the town issued 31 permits worth two million dollars — more than last year’s August at 16 permits issued worth one million dollars.
However, year to date – things are not as rosy.
Bell says so far this year, 170 permits have been issued worth 16 million dollars
That’s a far cry from the 50 million dollars in value for a total of 248 permits.
Bell can’t put his finger on why – other than the impact felt last year when development charges were implemented and huge dollars from the building of Wal-Mart Super Centre in Port Elgin.
Bell says contractors are booked throughout the month of fall – and things look good for the remainder of the year.
