One-thousand pounds of ribs are on the grill in Cargill this weekend.
The fourth annual Cargill Rib Barbeque and cook off is all set for today.
The Moravian Lodge Masonic of Cargill put on the event that runs at the Cargill Community Centre.
It features a cook off starting at 9 AM and they have ten teams participating this year.
Dinner starts at 5 PM — but there is live music and a cash bar opening at 3 PM and people can attend the rib judging which starts at 3:30 PM.
“Chief Ribologist” Bob McCulloch says the winners of last years event – The Flaming Knights – AKA the Knights of Columbus of Cargill and Chepstow- will be there to defend their title.
McCulloch says he is an expert on cooking ribs and says he has learned slow and steady cooking is the way to the award winning variety.
The festival injects money back into community groups through the masonics.
Last year 35-hundred dollars was raised and was donated to the masonic foundation- the Brockton Medical Centre – the Cargill Community Centre and Sick kids hospital in Toronto.
Tickets are available at Browns Drugstore or Holst Office Supplies in Walkerton.
