It’s a big weekend for a big fall fair.
The 154th edition of the Great Northern Exhibition kicks off on Friday afternoon and runs all weekend long between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
The fair, one of the oldest in Ontario, features everything from tractor and truck pulls, to various animal shows and demonstrations and exhibits of produce and preserves.
Jody Ottewell is the President of the Collingwood Agricultural Society and says an important aspect of the exhibition is the 4-H Interclub calf, beef and goat competition.
She says there are two new events this year, the Ferrier or Blacksmith Competition and the GNE Idol competition.
Ottewell also says the various horse shows and competitions are always very popular events and range from Heavy Horse and Miniature Horse events along with the Dressage and English horse competition.
Other events include a dog show, baby show, arm wrestling events, a fiddle and step dance competition, a demolition derby and of course a large midway.
Ottewell also says there are a number of events aimed at young people to get them involved in various aspects of the exhibition ranging from exhibiting their livestock to volunteering and helping out.
The Great Northern Exhibition is held at the Collingwood Agriculture Society fair grounds, on Fair Grounds Road, just off Highway 26th between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
