An emergency shelter for the homeless is ready to open its doors in Owen Sound.
Its taken months of planning, fundraising and refurbishing to get the 16 bed shelter operating on 2nd Avenue East in the city.
Reverend Randy Kennedy Pastor of the Victorious Living Centre says the VLC shelter, during a test run in august saw 105 people make use of the facility.
He says that was without any publicity or promotion of the fact the shelter even existed.
Now the colder weather is arriving, Kennedy says the demand for the shelter will grow even stronger.
Kennedy says thanks to the Federal Government homless initiative fund they were able to fix up the upper floor of the building they are in.
The shelter will have two split dorms for the men and a separate dorm for women.
Kennedy says this is not just an emergency shelter where people come and stay for several nights, before going back on the street again.
He says they have a plan to help rehabilitate people and help teach them life skills and provide care and friendship.
Kennedy says there will be an open house at the VLC Sanctuary this, afternoon between 2 PM and 6 PM.
He hopes people will come out to see what they have accomplished and hear about what they hope to do.
