Officials are remaining pretty tight-lipped about a security breach involving debit cards in Owen Sound.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News reported this morning, several hundred customers cards may have been involved.
Scotiabank officials have been unavailable for comment, but in a email they tell us they are investigating a skimming incident in the area.
The bank claims a small percentage of their customers debit cards were restricted as a precaution.
A customer told Bayshore Broadcasting News that when she tried to use her card yesterday at an ATM, the screen read her withdrawal limit had been reduced to 1 dollar and to talk with a teller.
Joe Konecny at Scotiacapital says the banks’ investigation shows the security breach did not happen at the bank itself and customers in other banks may also be affected.
Debit cards are being replaced and Scotiabank is reassuring customers if they were a victim of debit card fraud their money is safe and they will be reimbursed.
Scotiabank sent out the email to Bayshore Broadcasting News this morning, but will not comment about the security breach or their investigation.
