A new look for Hanovers main street. Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter
Hanover’s downtown is going to get a whole lot brighter.
The town is spending 73 thousand dollars to purchase 29 new street lights.
Downtown Improvement Area Chair J.D. Lyons says the new lights will replace the 22 black coach lights which have been lighting the night for 30 years now.
He says after 3 decades these older lights are deteriorating and need to be refreshed.
Lyons says the new glass acorn shaped lights will not only light up the night better but they are also more aesthetically pleasing.
The total project may actually come in 100 thousand dollars under budget, subject to the installation tender.
Hanover hopes to have the lights up by December 28th — the day the Olympic Torch will come through town.
The street light project is a culmination of two years of planning between the town of Hanover and the DIA board.
