Restoration work continues on the Cenotaph in Owen Sound as the race is on to have the project complete in time for Remembrance Day.
Owen Sound Director of Community services, Pam Coulter says the Cenotaph has been taken down, and a water line has now been installed to the site.
Coulter says the rest of the work begins this week.
The total cost of the restoration project is about 115 thousand dollars.
The restoration project is supported by the Royal Canadian Legion, and Veteran Affairs Canada.
Ottawa provided a grant of 25 thousand dollars, Cobble Beach donated 1 thousand dollars and Georgian Bluffs has made a commitment to help out in 2010 but hasn’t put a dollar figure on it’s donation.
Coulter says the rest of the money is coming from Owen Sound taxpayers.
She says the project came about, after council learned that the Cenotaph has been altered significantly over the years.
It used to have a water fountain, and a number of bronze plaques had been added to the site.
Coulter says the goal is to return it to it’s original design and intent.
A re-dedication ceremony will be held around Remembrance day, once the Cenotaph is restored.
